Workshops
Take your song to the next level in this three-segment class tailored to the developing songwriter.
Hosted in our intimate, Park Slope studio setting, producer and songsmith, Nathan Rosenberg will lead a round-table discussion, providing feedback, techniques, and guidance in a supportive style that has encouraged countless artists to transform their ideas into song.
Students are expected to bring a song for review to the first class (can be either played or recorded in a stripped-down form). Our discussion will focus on the basic elements of tune-crafting: melody, lyrics, harmony, form and style. In class two we refine a re-write based on the previous session's feedback (or another original song). In the third and final segment we delve into the magical realm of pre-production, exploring arrangement, instrumentation, and how the tools of recording can (and should) support the emotional impact of your song.
A piano and a guitar are available for use in the studio.

You don't need a PhD to understand the secrets of how music works.
This series offers practical explanations to illuminate and inspire people who go pale when conversations turn to topics such as harmony, form, cadence, voicing, meter, and chord substitutions. Such things are not as intimidating as they often seem. Nathan will break things down using his jazz inspired, simplified harmonic concept and present some practical tools that musicians and songwriters can use to expand their musical thinking, regardless of style.
